About the Fender American Elite Jazz Bass V

The American Elite series sat above the American Professional line as Fender's top US-made tier before being replaced by American Ultra in 2019, and the Jazz Bass V variant carried the series' signature features into five-string territory: Noiseless Jazz Bass pickups that cancel the hum inherent to traditional single-coils without the tonal compromise of a full humbucker redesign, and an active/passive push-push switch on the tone control that lets players choose the vintage passive circuit or the added-headroom active preamp on the fly.

Other American Elite hallmarks carried over include a compound-radius fingerboard that flattens toward the upper frets for easier soloing, a tapered neck heel for better upper-fret access, and locking tuners for faster string changes. Because the American Elite line was discontinued in favor of American Ultra after only three years, surviving examples represent a comparatively narrow production window, making them a distinct middle chapter between the American Standard/Professional and American Ultra generations rather than an ongoing current model.

Sound character of the Fender American Elite Jazz Bass V

Fender's Noiseless Jazz Bass pickups use a hum-cancelling design intended to keep the traditional single-coil J-Bass brightness and articulation while removing the 60-cycle hum a standard single-coil picks up, and the compound-radius neck and switchable active/passive preamp add both playability and tonal flexibility over a purely passive Jazz Bass.
