About the Fender Player II Jazz Bass

The Player II Jazz Bass carries over the fingerboard and neck refinements introduced across the whole Player II line to Fender's second core electric bass shape: a Modern "C"-profile neck in satin urethane, a 9.5-inch-radius fingerboard with rolled edges, and 20 medium jumbo frets at the standard 34-inch bass scale. The body is alder, and the neck's 1.5-inch nut width - narrower than the Precision Bass's 1.625 inches - reflects the Jazz Bass's traditionally slimmer neck profile aimed at faster playing.

Electronics are two Player Series Alnico V single-coil J-bass pickups, each with its own volume control plus a shared master tone control, in the classic Jazz Bass wiring layout that lets players blend neck and bridge pickup output independently. The bridge is an adjustable 4-saddle design with single-groove steel saddles, paired with open-gear tuners for tuning stability.

Sound character of the Fender Player II Jazz Bass

Two single-coil J pickups positioned close together create the classic Jazz Bass 'scooped mids' when blended evenly (partial phase cancellation thins the midrange), giving a bright, articulate voice quite different from a Precision Bass's single split-coil punch.

Scooped mids Bright Smooth

The history of the Fender Player II Jazz Bass

The Fender Jazz Bass was introduced in 1960 as a more refined, contoured alternative to the Precision Bass, aimed partly at double bass players transitioning to electric instruments in jazz settings. The Player II Series brought the model into its second generation in July 2024, updating the fingerboard and neck-profile details across Fender's Mexican-built lineup that had previously required stepping up to costlier American-made instruments.
