The five-string, active-electronics version of Fender's Mexican-made Player II Jazz Bass, combining an extended low B string with a preamp-equipped update to the traditionally passive Jazz Bass circuit.
About the Fender Player II Modified Active Jazz Bass V
This model combines two departures from the standard Player II Jazz Bass in one instrument: a fifth low B string, requiring a wider neck and dual single-coil pickups with correspondingly wider pole-piece spacing, and an active preamp replacing the classic passive dual-volume-plus-tone wiring most Jazz Basses have used since 1960. The preamp adds bass and treble boost/cut on top of the Jazz Bass's familiar dual-single-coil tone, which by itself already offers more midrange scoop and top-end clarity than a Precision Bass's split pickup.
As part of Fender's Mexican-made Player II range, it targets players who want a five-string Jazz Bass with more tonal shaping available on board than the passive Player II Jazz Bass V offers, without the cost step up to Fender's US-made American Professional II or Ultra II five-string Jazz Basses. It shares the Player II series' updated body contouring and neck profile, distinguished specifically by the added string and active circuit rather than by different tonewoods or construction.

Sound character of the Fender Player II Modified Active Jazz Bass V
Combining a fifth low-B string with an active preamp, this variant keeps the bright, articulate dual single-coil J-Bass voice - now with wider pole-piece spacing for even output across five strings - while the active bass/treble circuit gives a wider tonal range than the passive standard Player II Jazz Bass V.
