About the Fender Standard Jazz Bass (1991 - 2008)
This Standard Jazz Bass generation moved production to Fender's Mexico facility in 1991, identifiable by serial numbers beginning with MZ0, and remained the company's accessible take on the Jazz Bass concept through the end of the Standard line. Construction follows the classic Jazz Bass formula: an alder body with the model's offset waist contour, a maple neck with a slim '60s-style profile finished in satin, and a rosewood fingerboard at the standard 34-inch scale.
Electronics are two single-coil J-bass pickups, though their exact voicing changed partway through the run: pre-2001 examples used two identically sized pickups that some players and technicians described as having pole-to-string alignment issues affecting tone, addressed with a revised pickup build introduced in 2001. Hardware includes standard open-gear chrome tuners and a bent-steel chrome bridge, delivering the bright, articulate, growl-capable tone the Jazz Bass is known for at a more accessible price than Fender's US-built instruments.

Sound character of the Fender Standard Jazz Bass (1991 - 2008)
This older Mexican-made Standard-series Jazz Bass uses the same dual single-coil J pickup layout as its American counterparts, producing the classic scooped-mid, bright Jazz Bass voice, though the era's more affordable pickups and alder body give it a slightly less refined top end than a US-made equivalent.

The history of the Fender Standard Jazz Bass (1991 - 2008)
Fender's Standard Series represented the company's core Mexican-built lineup from the early 1990s through the late 2000s, offering the classic Jazz Bass formula at a lower price than American-made instruments. This generation was eventually replaced as Fender restructured its Mexican-built lineup into the Standard Series' successors in the years that followed.
