About the Fender Standard Precision Bass (1991-2008)
Produced at Fender's Ensenada, Mexico plant, the 1991-2008 Standard Precision Bass followed the classic P Bass formula - alder body, single split-coil pickup, maple neck with either maple or rosewood fingerboard - built to a consistent, accessible spec that made it a mainstay of Fender's Mexican-made lineup for close to two decades. It was eventually phased out and effectively replaced by the Player series starting around 2008-2009, which took over as Fender's core Mexican-made tier.
This production run predates and is unrelated in generation to Fender's 2023 revival of the 'Standard' name for a new budget tier below Player - the two share a model name but are different instruments from different eras of Fender's Mexican manufacturing lineup.

Sound character of the Fender Standard Precision Bass (1991-2008)
This older Mexican-made Standard Series P-Bass (1991-2008, predating the Player series) is built around Fender's classic split single-coil P pickup - two offset coil halves wired out of phase to cancel hum while keeping a thick, humbucking-style fundamental. On an alder body with a C-shaped neck, that pickup produces the deep, punchy midrange thump that has defined the Precision Bass sound since 1957, without the brighter voicing of later ceramic-pickup Fender basses.
