About the Squier Affinity Jazz Bass

The Affinity Jazz Bass follows the classic Jazz Bass blueprint - offset double-cutaway body, two single-coil pickups placed near the bridge and in the middle position, and a slim C-shaped neck - built to a price using a poplar or basswood body and simplified hardware compared to Fender's own Player or American lines. It is positioned as Squier's mainstream Jazz Bass, above the smaller-bodied Bronco/Mini models and below the Classic Vibe series, which adds more vintage-oriented appointments.

For players starting out or needing a reliable backup instrument, it delivers the recognizable Jazz Bass tonal palette - brighter and more scooped than a Precision Bass thanks to the dual single-coil layout - without the cost of Fender's Mexican- or US-made models.

Sound character of the Squier Affinity Jazz Bass

As a passive, budget-tier Jazz Bass, the Affinity relies on ceramic-magnet single-coil pickups rather than the alnico pickups found on pricier Fender Jazz Basses - ceramic magnets generally push output higher and add top-end edge at the cost of some of the warmth alnico is known for. Combined with a poplar body, the result is a brighter, thinner take on the classic dual-single-coil Jazz Bass growl.

Bright Punchy Midrange-forward
