About the Squier Sonic Bronco Bass

The Sonic Bronco Bass takes the Mustang/Bronco short-scale concept to Squier's most accessible current tier. The poplar body carries a bolt-on maple neck in a "C" shape, with a fingerboard (maple or Indian laurel depending on finish color) at a 9.5-inch radius, 19 narrow-tall frets and a 1.5-inch nut width, on the compact 30-inch scale that makes the bass easier to handle for smaller players or those transitioning from guitar.

Electronics are kept simple: a single ceramic split-coil pickup with a master volume and master tone control. The bridge is a straightforward 4-saddle hardtail design for reliable intonation adjustment, paired with sealed-gear tuning machines and chrome hardware - a no-frills setup aimed squarely at beginners and players wanting an affordable practice or backup instrument.

Sound character of the Squier Sonic Bronco Bass

A single bridge-position pickup and short scale give the entry-level Bronco Bass a bright, midrange-forward attack, but its simplified electronics and budget hardware leave it comparatively thin and delicate in the low end next to a P- or J-Bass.

The history of the Squier Sonic Bronco Bass

Squier's Sonic Series replaced the earlier Bullet/Affinity-adjacent entry-level lineup as Fender's most accessible current tier of instruments, aimed at first-time buyers. The Bronco Bass name revives Fender's own short-scale student bass concept from the 1960s at this modern budget price point.
