About the Squier Affinity Precision Bass PJ

The Affinity Precision Bass PJ builds on the classic Precision Bass shape and feel at Squier's most accessible price point, with a thin, lightweight body and a slim, comfortable "C"-profile maple neck. The maple fingerboard sits at a 9.5-inch radius with 20 frets on the standard 34-inch scale, bolted on for straightforward setup and adjustment.

The defining feature is its PJ pickup pairing: a Squier split single-coil P-bass pickup at the neck position combined with a single-coil J-bass pickup at the bridge, each with its own volume knob and a shared master tone control - giving access to both the P-bass's thick fundamental and the J-bass's brighter, more articulate character, or a blend of both. Hardware includes vintage-style open-gear tuners and a standard 4-saddle bridge, manufactured in Indonesia to keep the instrument affordable for beginning players.

Sound character of the Squier Affinity Precision Bass PJ

A split-coil P pickup at the neck for punchy fundamental plus a single-coil J pickup at the bridge for extra bite gives this budget PJ-configured bass more tonal flexibility than a standard P-Bass, though its poplar/agathis body keeps the overall voicing less resonant than premium tonewoods.

Punchy Warm Bright

The history of the Squier Affinity Precision Bass PJ

Squier's Affinity Series represents Fender's most accessible tier of instruments, aimed squarely at first-time buyers and students. The PJ pickup configuration itself traces back to Fender's own past experiments combining Precision and Jazz Bass pickup types, offering broader tonal range than a single-pickup Precision Bass at a similar price point.
