A budget-friendly recreation of Fender's six-string Bass VI concept: three Alnico single coils with individual on/off switches, a vibrato tailpiece, and a 30-inch scale tuned a full octave below a standard guitar.
About the Squier Classic Vibe Bass VI
The Bass VI occupies an unusual space between guitar and bass: it has six strings tuned E-to-E like a guitar, but a full octave lower, at a 30-inch scale considerably longer than a typical guitar but shorter than a standard 34-inch bass. The poplar body carries a bolt-on maple neck with a "C" shape and a 9.5-inch-radius Indian laurel fingerboard with pearloid block inlays and 21 narrow-tall frets.
Electronics use three Fender Alnico single-coil pickups, each switchable independently on or off via its own slide switch rather than a conventional selector, alongside master volume and tone controls and a distinctive "strangle" switch that cuts bass frequencies for a thinner, more guitar-like tone. The bridge is a vibrato tailpiece, unusual for a bass-register instrument and a direct link to the original's design intent as a genre-crossing hybrid rather than a pure bass replacement.

Sound character of the Squier Classic Vibe Bass VI
The Bass VI's three single-coil pickups and Jaguar/Jazzmaster-style switching matrix give it a bright, twangy voice unlike a standard 4-string bass - closer to a baritone guitar. Its 30" scale (short for a 6-string bass tuned E-to-E) keeps string tension looser, adding a slightly airy, resonant quality on top of the twang.

Price history for the Squier Classic Vibe Bass VI

The history of the Squier Classic Vibe Bass VI
Fender introduced the original Bass VI in 1961, aimed at guitarists wanting an easier way to add low-register parts without switching to a full bass, and it saw use by both bass and lead players including several prominent surf and studio guitarists of the era. Squier's Classic Vibe version revives the concept at an accessible price point, aimed at players drawn to its distinctive, genre-crossing tonal character rather than as a conventional bass.
