A nylon-string built like a solid-body electric rather than an acoustic: a chambered mahogany body with a spruce top and no soundhole, designed with Chet Atkins to let classical/flamenco parts be played live at volume without feedback.
About the Epiphone Chet Atkins SST Classic
The Chet Atkins SST has no soundhole and only a thin, chambered mahogany body under its spruce top - closer in concept to a solid-body electric guitar than to a traditional classical instrument. That construction exists specifically to prevent acoustic feedback at stage volume, the main problem with amplifying a true hollow-body nylon-string guitar through a loud PA. The mahogany neck is glued in (set-neck) rather than bolted, with a rosewood fingerboard at a 25.5-inch scale and 2-inch nut width, and a slotted headstock in the classical style.
Electronics are Epiphone/Gibson's NanoFlex pickup system feeding a dedicated SST Classic preamp, rather than a simple passive piezo - designed to reproduce a more acoustic-like tone despite the guitar having essentially no resonating chamber. A single 1/4-inch output jack on the lower bout, in the electric-guitar tradition, replaces the strap-button/endpin jack combination found on true acoustic-electrics.

Sound character of the Epiphone Chet Atkins SST Classic
Built like a solid-body electric rather than an acoustic - chambered mahogany body, spruce top, and no soundhole - it produces very little natural acoustic resonance or sustain on its own; the NanoFlex pickup and SST Classic preamp are doing the real tonal work, giving a controlled, feedback-resistant nylon voice designed to be played loud on stage.

The history of the Epiphone Chet Atkins SST Classic
Chet Atkins, a steel-string virtuoso who also performed classical and flamenco-style pieces, developed this solid-body nylon-string concept with Gibson in the early 1980s specifically to solve his own feedback problems playing nylon-string parts live; Epiphone continued the design as the SST Classic from 1994 to 2000 as a more affordable version of Gibson's own Chet Atkins CE/CEC models.
