A concert ukulele built entirely from solid bamboo - top, back, sides, neck and fingerboard alike - a fast-renewing material choice over traditional tonewoods, with a slotted headstock for a lighter overall build.
About the Kala KA-BMB-C
Where most ukuleles use bamboo only as an occasional back/sides accent wood at most, the KA-BMB-C builds the entire instrument from it: top, back, sides, neck and fingerboard are all solid bamboo, a grass rather than a hardwood but dense enough to function as a genuine tonewood. Kala markets the resulting tone as bright with strong volume, harmonics and sustain, comparable to hardwood ukuleles in playing character despite the unconventional material.
At a 15-inch concert scale with 18 frets, it uses a slotted headstock - both a cosmetic vintage touch and a way to shed a little weight compared to a solid paddle headstock. Hardware includes a Graph Tech NuBone nut and saddle for tuning stability and sustain, and it's strung with Aquila Super Nylgut strings as stock equipment, finished in satin to show the bamboo's natural grain.

Sound character of the Kala KA-BMB-C
Bamboo's density gives it strong volume, harmonic content and sustain comparable to hardwood ukuleles despite being technically a grass rather than a tonewood - Kala describes the resulting voice as bright, with the concert body size adding fuller low-mids than a soprano would.

The history of the Kala KA-BMB-C
Kala's all-bamboo ukuleles are part of the brand's push toward materials that regrow faster than tropical hardwoods increasingly restricted by international timber regulations, offered as a genuine tonal alternative rather than a budget compromise.
