About the Kala Nomad U-Bass
The Nomad sits between Kala's basic solid-body U-Basses and its higher-tier acoustic-electric models, adding a built-in tuner and active preamp - labeled U-BASS Active EQ - to a design still simple and travel-friendly enough for the name. Unlike a passive pickup circuit, an active preamp boosts and shapes the signal before it reaches an amplifier, generally producing a stronger, more controllable output for stage use.
Like all U-Basses, the tone comes primarily from Kala's proprietary thick, low-tension synthetic strings on a short scale rather than steel roundwounds - the Nomad keeps that core concept while making onstage amplification more straightforward than a bare passive pickup would allow, aimed at bassists who gig regularly but don't need the fuller tone-shaping controls of Kala's Journeyman or top-tier acoustic-electric U-Basses.
