A soprano ukulele built entirely from ebony rather than the mahogany or koa typical of the size, aiming for a darker, bass-accentuated tone than the bright chime usually associated with soprano ukuleles.
About the Ortega RUEB-SO
Ortega's Ebony Series puts ebony - a wood almost never used for an entire ukulele body, usually reserved for fingerboards and bridges because of its density and cost - as the top, back and sides material on the RUEB-SO. That density pushes the tone toward a darker, more bass-accentuated character than the brighter, more percussive sound typical of mahogany or koa soprano ukuleles, a deliberate tonal repositioning rather than just a cosmetic upgrade.
The neck is mahogany with a satin finish, joined to a walnut fingerboard and bridge rather than the ebony body wood itself, at a 350mm scale and 35mm nut width across 15 frets - standard soprano proportions. Gold-plated die-cast tuners with black buttons and tortoise-style ABS binding around the open-pore-finished ebony body complete the appointments, with a deluxe gig bag included.

Sound character of the Ortega RUEB-SO
Ebony is dense and heavy compared to the mahogany or koa used on most soprano ukuleles, which pushes the tone toward a darker, more bass-accentuated character with less of the bright, percussive chime typical of the size. It's a deliberate departure from the classic soprano voice rather than a louder or more resonant version of it.
