A hand-built, all-solid soprano ukulele from a maker better known for mandolins and violins: solid Sitka spruce top over solid ovangkol back and sides, an unusual tonewood pairing for the size.
About the Eastman EU2S
Eastman applies the same all-solid, hand-built philosophy it uses across its mandolin and violin-family instruments to the EU2S: a solid Sitka spruce top over solid ovangkol back and sides, rather than the mahogany or koa that dominates soprano ukulele construction. Ovangkol, an African hardwood often used on higher-end guitars as a rosewood substitute, brings a slightly different overtone character than the more common soprano tonewoods.
The mahogany neck carries a rosewood fingerboard with 17 frets joined at the 12th in traditional soprano fashion, a flat fingerboard radius, and a bone nut 1 27/64 inches wide at a 13 7/16-inch scale. Chrome hardware with black-buttoned tuners, a rosewood bridge on a bone saddle, pearl dot headstock inlay, white side dots and tortoise body/back binding round out the appointments, strung with D'Addario Nyltech strings and shipped in a deluxe gig bag.

Sound character of the Eastman EU2S
Ovangkol, an African hardwood often used as a rosewood substitute on guitars, brings a somewhat different overtone character than the mahogany or koa typical of soprano ukuleles - generally clearer and more defined in the low-mids - while the solid spruce top adds bright top-end sparkle on top of that.

The history of the Eastman EU2S
Eastman Music Company, primarily known for hand-carved mandolins and violin-family instruments built in its own Beijing workshop, extends the same all-solid-wood, hand-built construction standard to its smaller ukulele range rather than treating ukuleles as a lower-effort side product.
